Story:
Ford's
100th and GOF XXXV
On
the Cover:
If
the entire Ford 100th anniversary experience and LZOC's involvement
in it were to be summed up in one picture, that picture would have
to show the Ford world headquarters building decorated with the "Ford
100" centennial banner, an H-series V-12 Lincoln, and one of
the major events or attractions with a lot of visitors and spectators
enjoying it.
The
photograph on our cover does that.
In
the foreground here is the 1947 Lincoln Continental Cabriolet of Robert
and Myrt Gilstorff of Onsted, Michigan.
Bob
is an LZOC member, #2223, but he did not participate in LZOC's Gathering
of the Faithful No. XXXV, as his car was tapped for use in Ford's
display of "100 Icons that Moved the World," which was one
significant Ford vehicle to represent each of the 100 years that the
Ford Motor Company has been in business, parked in chronological order
in the parking lot in front of the Henry Ford II World Center (now
the official name of Ford's WHQ).
As
one of the hundred icons, Bob's Continental was parked beside its
identifying sign for the entire centennial weekend.
This
'47 Continental, a 1942 Lincoln Custom armor-plated for the U.S. President,
and a stock 1936 Lincoln-Zephyr Sedan were the only cars recognized
by LZOC to be included among the hundred icons, as you will see in
this issue.
