Cover Story: A Visit with the Gregories -- No doubt, Oscar Brock's 1938 Coupe was the last Lincoln-Zephyr that Bob Gregorie ever got to see.

On the Cover: Eugene T. "Bob" Gregorie, Ford Motor Company's first design studio chief, 1935 to 1946, seen here at right, had one last look at one of his most successful designs, the 1938 Lincoln-Zephyr, when Oscar Brock, LZOC 80 (left), took his '38 Coupe to Gregorie's house last August 31. Gregorie conceived the low, wide grille for this model in order to solve a cooling problem with the earlier Zephyrs, whose narrow, V-shaped grilles blocked the radiator too much. But it was to become a styling trend followed by the rest of the auto industry, and helped to make the Lincoln-Zephyr the "Style Leader." Bob Gregorie, nearly 94 when this picture was taken, lived only three more months. The full story on this begins on page 12. Photo by Stan Gunby, De Land, Florida.
