Cover Story: The Draeger Portfolios -- The most gorgeous Lincoln-Zephyr sales literature of all On the Cover: This certainly must be the most dramatic artwork ever created to celebrate the introduction of the 1938 Lincoln-Zephyr. The unnamed French artist caught the sweep and flow of the lines of that breakthrough horizontal grille and the prow that divides it, and where the Garnet Red of the Zephyr front end fades away, their lines are continued in the golden ambience through which the car has plunged. This is the artwork on the front of the three-panel portfolio containing three color plates, designed and printed by Draeger and distributed by Matford, S.A., at their beautiful showroom and salon on the Avenue de Champs Élysées inParis. Gold ink was used in printing the original, but here we must reproduce the gold effect using the good old four-color process, so the results may not be quite so dramatic. |
