Cover Story: A Report on GOF Central IX -- Downpour in Dubuque

On the Cover: The most memorable part of the tour on Friday during GOF Central IX, held in Dubuque, Iowa, August 23 - 26, was the crossing of the Mississippi River by ferry boat. At Cassville, Wisconsin, the long column of Lincolns drove down the ramp, one at a time, and onto the waiting barge that would take them back to Iowa. Here, Allan Franz has just set the hand brake on his 1947 Continental Cabriolet as Jim and Clare Nordman and their passengers drive on board in their 1941 Zephyr convertible. Next in line is Don Burkholder in his 1940 Zephyr convertible, followed by Don Wustrack in his 1942 Hudson Commodore (Hudson, you say? Yeah, Hudson.) and Bruce Nichols in his '41 Continental. They had all just come from the Stonefield Historic Village, advertised on the billboard at left.Photo by Hank Dikkeboom, meet director.
