Cover Story: Lincolns in Tidewater Virginia; A Report on GOF XXXIII

On the Cover: Judging is the heart and soul of any Gathering of the Faithful, and so it was at Toddsbury in Tidewater Virginia at GOF XXXIII on May 12. Here, Lloyd Pearson's well-known Burgundy Red 1939 Lincoln-Zephyr Coupe is scrutinized by a team of judges whose focus at the time John Sweet shot this scene was on the correct number of screws that hold up the top edge of the luggage compartment side panel. The gravity of this question is something akin to that entertained once by theologians who wondered how many angels could dance on the head of a pin. Here, Jake Fleming, facing the camera, tells Lloyd what he thinks, while the others peer, muse, listen, and contemplate. In the distance is Toddsbury, built in 1658, beneath its stately trees; at the right is one of its guest houses, like the manor house itself, of two stories, with a mansard roof. It is only about a hundred and fifty years old.
